|Book with my study notes|
Idols aren't just stone statues. No, idols are the thoughts, desires, longings, and expectations that we worship in the place of the true God. Idols cause us to ignore the true God in search of what we think we need. (p. 23-Note: Italics are my emphasis.)Like I mentioned earlier, I am not without hope.
God calls us to bury our false gods at the cross. It's in union with Jesus Christ, the one who hung on Golgotha's tree, that we have the power to conquer all our idolatry and bury our gods in the blood-soaked ground beneath His cross. (p. 28)The last study consisted of Chapters 1-3. I would encourage you to read this book. At the end of every chapter, Elyse has questions to help you think about who or what you are worshiping.
