- Kool-Aid: I had NO idea where to look for it in the store. I dislike Kool-Aid and can't remember the last time I bought some. I almost had to go to a different store because I couldn't find it at Shoppers. I kept wondering around and around, but finally found it!
- Vinegar: I read elsewhere that this was not needed because Kool-Aid is acidic, you don't need vinegar. I erred on the side of caution and still used it.
- Crock-pot
- Tongs
- Patons Classic Wool Yarn: It's 100% wool {but you can use any yarn as long as it's 100% animal fiber}.

I had no plans for this yarn, so I decided to take the plunge. |

Put water and a few Tablespoons of vinegar in a crock-pot. Place yarn in crock-pot and let yarn get wet and submerge. Sorry, I did not get a picture of me placing the yarn in the crock-pot. |

At the end of the hour, the water should be clear. Even though, I read this was the case, I was still shocked. Turn yarn over, using tongs. |

The next day, I rolled it up into a ball while Charis was napping. |
I'm hoping to knit a newborn soaker for a friend of mine. I'm hoping {and praying} that I have enough yarn!! I might make the waist and leg cuffs in a different color, so I don't have to worry about running out of yarn.
What are you knitting and reading?

Ooh, I've done this - isn't it fun? Only, I used the microwave and some yarn I'd harvested from a thrift store sweater. But I really enjoyed dying my own yarn!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to do this! So, do you think the dye is really set well? I've always been concerned that it would all come out when I washed it. Let me know how it goes! And, check out my site to say hello- http://twyste.com (and to enter the giveaway this week).
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I haven't tried to dye my own yarn but you make it look so fun and easy that I'm going to have to try :)
ReplyDeleteI never knew one could do this. Excellent tutorial. I am wondering, does any of the color come off with washing. I know it would likely be washed in cold due to wool but still any time I dye something I get a bit paranoid.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! The finished product is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe colours came out fantastic. I am wondering too, how colour fast it would be in the wash...I guess it would have come out when you rinsed it, if it was going to come out, right?
ReplyDeleteStopping by from TNAT
ReplyDeleteI have a knitter friend who did this. Yours turned out great!! We don't drink Kool-Aid either so I wouldn't know where to look...and plus hubby does all the shopping. =p
I'm so going to try this. I think my AnnaLynn would LOVE doing this since she adores bright colors and is really getting into knitting and crocheting more and more these days. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see what you make with your yarn.
