I must confess when I saw this week's Breastfeeding Blog Hop topic I had NO clue what Galatagogue meant. So, I turned to Google and searched. According to KellyMom, a galactagogue is "a substance that increases milk supply." I am thankful to God that I had no reason to look into what substances would increase lactation. In fact I had the opposite problem, my body was wanting to overproduce.
Before taking substances, make sure you are getting enough rest, drinking enough fluids, nursing frequently and on demand, and eating enough food-basically, make sure you're taking care of yourself. If you are still having problems with your supply, try to get an appointment with an IBCLC to discuss if taking galactagogues would be of help to you. If you're not able to get an appointment with an IBCLC, then speak with your midwife or OB-GYN about substances you can take to help increase your supply.
Did you have trouble with your milk supply?
Did you take any Galactagogues?
