Kitty Hat #Yarn Along

On Saturday night, I told my mother, "I'll be finished with Charis's kitty hat by Tuesday." Unfortunately, I have not cast off yet. I finished one of the ears, It will take less than 30 minutes to finish the other ear. I am not looking forward to weaving in all the ends.

Other than water, one of my favorite beverages to drink is tea, especially chai tea. Since going to Uganda in 2006, I am very particular about the taste of my chai teas. My favorite brand is Tazo organic chai. In the past, I have tried putting together spices and making real, homemade tea, but the results have always been wanting. You can often find me drinking tea and knitting at night after my children go to bed. Do you drink anything when you knit?

Thinking about soup! The weather is cooler. The temps are lower. Yes, I do realize what I wrote is redundant, but I don't care. A few soup recipes I have found that sound delicious are:

The many library books I need to take back to the library ASAP! Please tell me I'm not the only one who should have a library wing named after them. Sadly, I have library fines I need to pay and can not borrow any more books until those fines are paid. So, off to the library they will go.

Preschool Books: From Sheep to Yarn

Lately, my daughter has been interested in everything related to knitting, such as yarn, needles, gauge swatches, patterns stitches. She has asked many questions, "How is yarn made? How do you knit?" I told her, "Yarn comes from sheep." Charis was even more puzzled. I took my daughter to the library in search of children's books to help answer some of her questions. I am doing a very informal unit study with Charis about processing wool-from sheep to yarn. How wool becomes yarn for preschoolers.

Kitty Hat and Guest Posting #YarnAlong

I started knitting Charis the "Kitty Hat", but I have not gotten very far because caring for my son and nourishing him is more important than knitting. On Halloween, Charis will dress up as Hello Kitty. For Charis's birthday, Aunt Jen and Uncle Robbie gave her a Hello Kitty shirt. I bought Hello Kitty fabric at Jo-Ann Fabric to sew her a skirt, and I'm knitting her a kitty hat. Once the hat is finished, I plan on embroidering eyes and attaching a knit bow on the hat.

Reminded of My Weakness

Saturday night, my 5 month old woke up not once, but five times. 8 AM Sunday, I cried. It was officially the fifth time he woke up since 12 AM, and he was not going back to sleep. Drew helped out and got up with Charis and the baby.

Sunday night, Lil' J woke up four times. That is not including the two times I finished nursing him, put him back in his crib, and he woke up crying again within 10 minutes. Both of those times, I picked him back up and nursed him again on both breasts. Monday morning, I was exhausted, impatient, and felt like I was losing my mind.

Brief recap of our life currently: On Saturday, we had our church picnic. It was cold and windy. I was so thankful that I brought a hat and cardigan for Lil' J. My daughter did NOT want to wear her jacket. Most of the evening I let her get her way, but about 30 minutes before leaving, I firmly told her, "Put it on." She obeyed, but as she put it on, she said, "I'm not cold."

At the picnic, one of the games involved a pair of disguise glasses. Charis was given a pair of glasses after the picnic. Yesterday before church, I had fun putting them on my son and taking a picture of the little cutie.

Felted Baby Yoda Hat #YarnAlong #Knitting

This year, I plan on taking Charis and Justin trick or treating, but I refuse to pay tons of money on a costume. So, I decided to knit part of their costumes. I bought some green wool yarn at a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store a few years ago. I decided to knit a Felted Baby Yoda Hat for my son. He'll wear green pants, a long sleeve white onesie, and the yoda hat. Out of pocket money spent on his costume = <$2

Homemade Almond Milk + a Giveaway

One of my favorite treats to drink is smoothies, usually made with almond milk, whey protein powder, and some strawberries. It's so delicious. I usually buy unsweetened almond milk from the grocery store, but I was told it was so easy to make. I decided to try it out myself.

Fox Scarf #YarnAlong

First Christmas gift down... many more to go. This year, I might do Christmas knitting a bit differently. I'm horrible at knitting something for the same people year after year. I plan on knitting something for my children, two nieces, and nephew.

Veggie Tales: Beauty and the Beet at Family Christian Stores

My daughter was recently introduced to Veggie Tales and has fallen in love it. I am so excited that there's a new Veggie Tales movie coming out: Beauty and the Beet.

Beauty and the Beet, releasing October 11, is a story about Mirabelle and her traveling family band, the Veggie Tones. They are determined to make their next gig at Vegetable Square Garden. On their journey, a fierce winter snowstorm hits, and the family gets stuck at a run-down resort!

Thinking about how excited I am our local library reopened!!! Last November it closed for renovations and was supposed to reopen in May... five months after it was supposed to reopen, it finally did. Yes, sometimes I love the efficiency of the government.

My next knitting project. On Saturday evening, Charis, Justin, and I went on a walk. I tried putting my son's hat on, but it was too small. I decided that after I finish my nephew's Christmas gift, I will knit a hat for my son. But, I have yet to decide on a pattern.

Pierogi Casserole

In 1994, my family moved from Iowa to Western Pennsylvania. In PA, I was introduced to some new foods: Italian wedding soup, pierogis, and pizzelles. Pierogis are one of my "comfort foods", which is why I don't make them too often. They remind me of the few Pirates games I attended and watched the pierogis race. In my marriage, peirogis are the perfect compromise, since they have pasta on the outside {representing Drew's Italian heritage} and potatoes on the inside {Grandad was a potato farmer in Northern Ireland}.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. There are many good things about autumn: cooler temps, more knitting, walking to the park, wearing sweaters, leaves changing colors, apple picking, Halloween, Thanksgiving, getting ready for Christmas, spending time with family, soups, baking, candy corn, and pumpkins.

What to Bring When Shopping at ALDI

Yesterday, I wrote about four reasons I love shopping at ALDI. I have heard people complain about ALDI because they were not aware of what they needed to bring on their first shopping trip. If you have never shopped at ALDI, you will want to read these tips before going on your first grocery shopping trip:

Corvallis #YarnAlong

I completed my test knit-Corvallis-by Taiga Hillard Designs. Let’s just say that I LOVE this pattern. Even though it took me 2+ months to complete, it was very easy. There were many weeks where I was not working on it. When I picked it up again, it was easy to get back into the swing of knitting it.

Four Reasons I Shop at ALDI

When Drew and I were married five years ago, I was not too concerned about saving money at the grocery store. I had a full time job that paid well. But when our daughter was born I cut down my hours and worked PRN, money became tight, so tight that at one point, we only had $5 in our bank account. We had expenses that needed to be paid. On Wednesday nights, Charis and I attended prayer meeting. I was thrilled to discover that there was an ALDI on the way home from prayer meeting, so I started doing our weekly grocery shopping there. 6 months ago, an ALDI opened up less than 2 miles away from our apartment. ALDI is one of my favorite grocery stores; we do the bulk of our grocery shopping there.
