Wife, Mummy, Nurse: Why I'm Participating in the Flats and Handwashing Challenge

Why I'm Participating in the Flats and Handwashing Challenge

Four years ago, I participated in the 1st Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge. I also participated the second year... and the third year participated just for nap and night time (my daughter wore regular underwear when she was awake). The fourth year, I just had a baby and there was NO way I was going to worry about handwashing diapers while I was recovering from childbirth.

But this year, I am once again participating. Throughout the last year, I have made excuses (more than I should have) about using disposable items which leads to more money shelled out. I am a grad student's wife and a mother to two children. We don't have the discretionary income to constantly throw away on disposable products. Note: I'm not saying it's wrong to use disposable products, but I need to wisely use the things that God has given us and entrusted to our care.

What am I not looking forward to? Handwashing the poopy diapers. My son is no longer exclusively on breastmilk. The simple fact is, solids=yuckier diapers. I just have to tell myself, "It's just one week. No washer. No dryer. No problem."

Will you participate in the Flats and Handwashing Challenge?
Linking up at Dirty Diaper Laundry.

  1. This is my first year participating and I find myself wishing I would have started using flats with my son sooner!

  2. I love your look on it. I use flats pretty regularly but with a combo of prefolds and microfibers too. :)

  3. While we couldn't participate this year, I'd love to use flats and prefolds with baby number 2. I wish I had started with them on my son as it would have made cloth diapering while living in an apartment so much easier.
